WHAT IS IRISH DANCE?
Irish Dance is a unique, cultural dance form that has evolved into modern sport with traditional roots. It involves multiple dance forms most similar to ballet and tap. It also can be a solo dance or group dance. It is a great physical activity that will encourage muscular development, cognitive function and social skills.
Irish dance began centuries ago in Ireland. It has since blossomed into a wide world phenomenon with the introduction of programs such as Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. Irish dance schools exist around the world: from USA, Australia, China, South Africa, Mexico, Israel and more! It is an art form that appeals to everyone…not just the Irish.
EDUCATION
Classes are a group setting that encourages each dancer to reach their individual potential. Dancers learn balance, coordination, cognitive and muscle development, creative expression, in additional life lessons such as value of hard work/practice, teamwork, perseverance, and community interaction. Each class includes warm up, stretching, and dance material.
COMMUNITY
Black Rose is proud to be a part of the local community. We proudly perform at many local charity events and parties and the St. Patrick’s parade. Our March Madness (St. Patrick’s Season) includes dancing and sharing our talents across the area from nursing homes, local Irish clubs, support groups and even in stores, like Yankee candle! We also host our own events, such as our Annual Christmas Hooley, Colleen Ceili where we teach the local Colleen’s our traditional dances, the Lúnasa Feis which we cosponsor.
